Instructions on how to install the aspera connect tool on Hoffman2

NOTE: Transfer should be done from the Hoffman2 Data Transfer nodes:


Installation instructions:

- the current version of aspera connect (ibm-aspera-connect_4.2.7.445_linux_x86_64.tar.gz), available from: https://www.ibm.com/aspera/connect/, is not compatible with the current version of the OS on Hoffman2 (CentOS 7.9), accordingly, you will need to install an older version of the software

- this version has been tested: ibm-aspera-connect-3.10.1.181943-linux-g2.12-64.tar and it appears to work

Instructions:

- log into the cluster via remote desktop (s that you can open firefox) - see https://www.hoffman2.idre.ucla.edu/Using-H2/Connecting/Connecting.html#connecting-via-remote-desktop

- start firefox and  to download an older version of the software you will need to navigate to:


- to proceed to the download you will need to create an IBMid

- after you download the ibm-aspera-connect_4.2.7.445_linux_x86_64.tar.gz open a terminal and unpack it with:


cd Downloads
tar xvf ibm-aspera-connect-3.10.1.181943-linux-g2.12-64.tar.gz


- install it with:

./ibm-aspera-connect-3.10.1.181943-linux-g2.12-64.sh

- this will install it in:


$HOME/.aspera/connect


- go back on firefox and install the aspera extension

- go back to the terminal and enter:

$HOME/.aspera/connect/bin/asperaconnect &

you should now be able to upload content.
